The Dingham-on-Wharfe Pig Race has been held for centuries in a town somewhere in the region surrounding Tackleford. Its 400th annual event was held in 1999, which would make the first one in 1600 if they have been held every year without break (though if some years were skipped due to wars, plagues, or other causes, this would alter the chronology somewhat). It appears to take place in February. The writers of City Limit magazine were assigned by editor Len Pickering to cover this race, which Len termed "the sweetest plum" of assignments, but the writers weren't quite so thrilled.
